Cute as a Button Quail

This is a photo of our Chinese Blue Breasted Quail commonly know as Button Quail in the United States and England. In Australia they are commonly called King Quail. They are one of the smallest types of quail and hail from China where they have been kept as cage birds for hundreds of years. First for Luck, then for their beauty and sweet calls of Pe Pe Pew. They only get 3 to 4 inches tall and about 4 to5 inches long.

The 6 week quail in the photo were resting under the heat lamp in the brooder when I noticed them. I hurried and grabbed the camera before they moved. The little hams just stayed like this through 3 or 4 photo flashes and this one come out the best.

They are starting with the lightest and going clockwise, Silver Male, Silver Cinnamon Female, 3 Red Breast Females and Single Factor Blue Face Red Breast Male.
